Academic articles often will not appear on websites searched by Google because they are stored in subscription-only databases that provide limited access. However, CCS subscribes to a number of databases that are useful to Illustration students.

Tips on Searching Databases

Databases work differently than Google. Here are some tips to help you get started searching in databases:

  • Use the terms AND, OR, NOT to combine different words for a more specified database search

  • To search for a phrase, use parentheses around words

(American illustration)

(Feminist illustrator)

  • Use an asterisk to search for different endings of a root word

Illustrat*

  • Be creative

If you have trouble finding articles on your topic, try different vocabulary words
