FAQ

  1. How do I find a book?
    • You can search for books by keyword, author, title, or subject in the Library catalog. Click on the record of the book you want to view the call number (the alphanumeric string used to locate books on the shelves).
  2. How do I renew my books?
    • Go to the Library catalog and login using your Blackboard username; on your first login, the password will be "password" (you should change it to something more secure after logging in for the first time). You will be able to view your checked out items and renew all or select specific ones to renew. You may also call or stop by the Library desk to renew your books.
  3. Why isn’t the book on the shelf?
    •  If you cannot find a book on the shelf it may be checked out to another patron. You can verify this by looking at the book's record in the Library catalog - it will say "checked out" if this is the case. If the record doesn't say this, you should speak with a Library staff member. Sometimes books are misshelved and it can be helpful to have someone else double-check the shelves for you. If Library staff determine it is lost, they may decide to purchase another copy.
  4. What should I do if the book I need is already checked out?
    • If the record in the Library catalog says the item is checked out, speak to a Library staff member and they can assist you in placing a hold on the item through the catalog. When the material is returned, it will be put aside for you and you will be notified via email that it is available.
  5. Can I request books online for pick up at either Library?
    • When you find an item in the catalog that you want, simply click "Place Hold" on the item’s record page. You can place holds on items that are available but that you want pulled, or on material another patron has checked out. After selecting "Place Hold," you will be prompted to login. After you have logged in, you can select whether you would like to pick it up at the Main Library ("College for Creative Studies") or the Color & Materials Library. If the item is available and not checked out, there is a 24 hour window before your hold will be ready. For all holds, you will be sent an email once the item is available for you to pick up; ask for it at the desk after receiving the email.
